Chapter 2 – Component list:

The second chapter is about the building of the Raspberry Pi WIFI radio controlled vehicle and all the components and tools you need to build such a car. I will envision the components like the Raspberry Pi, the gear motors, the camera and so on briefly. As well for each component I update the component list if I still use the components or not. If not I will explain why not and which alternative I am using now in my RaPi car. I also added the product links to Amazon where I bought the components for my model car.

With the components listed here we will build a WIFI / radio controlled Raspberry Pi vehicle which is controlled by a web-interface with a live video stream from all over the world if you like. RC cars with a normal remote control could only controlled over a very short distance. With this Raspberry Pi RC car the distance between the car and e.g. the smartphone is irrelevant.

We will build the car with the help of the HowTo papers and program the car controller. We will have a lot of fun to try things and to tinker.

I started this project with the idea to build everything by myself. I also tried to build the electronics to control the motors by myself. But this was to difficult, made many problems, it was very time-consuming and the fully assembled buy components are cheaper than the individual build components by myself.

One big advantage of the ready assembled components are they work!

Conclusion:

The costs for the Raspberry Pi RC car are manageable. It is easy to build such a RaPi car successfully. You can also use the components for further projects like a boat or robot. For the first time to understand the Raspberry Pi and the control of DC motors it is a good idea to start with.
