Chapter 12 – cardboard car model

This chapter is about building the cardboard Raspberry Pi RC model car. I first draw the drawing with a Drawing Board. After this I used SketchUp to draw it on my computer. You can design and build your own model if you like. It is important to get a stable cardboard from e.g. the supermarket. I used a cardboard from the vegetable section. It was very stable. But make sure that the cardboard is clean.

This is my first model I build. Below the picture you find the latest drawings of my model.

The chassis is build out of one pice of cardboard. The grey edge if for the glue to stick the chassis together.

Tools:

To build the cardboard car you only need the following tools. They should be enough to build the car.

  • Glue
  • Hot glue gun
  • carpet knife
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • pan
  • circle

This movie shows the first drawings I did on a Drawing Board as a time-laps movie.

Conclusion:

The cardboard model is designed and build very fast and you could easily enhance the model. The cost for the model are very low maybe 0 US$. You could also build your own add-ones for the car as well very easy and fast. It is easy to build with the hot glue gun and a mount for a spare tire is built in a few minutes.
